Come on, Aunt Zaynab, cross the Marigold bridge

A favorite dish that I always tell my mom to prepare for us is red rice with kebab, and there is a reason for that. I wanted to write this post because two days ago when we had it for dinner, I got emotional. One of my all-time favorite movies of Pixar is Coco. The story and the world always fascinate me. And when a situation like this happens in my life, I sing “Remember Me” under my breath.

So this is about an aunt of my grandma. Her name was Zaynab, and she had a sister; her name was Rahma. We went to their house all the time. Similar to Mama Coco, full of love and joy. Always pouring hope and positivity. Unfortunately, they died a few years ago. But every now and then, when we visited them and it was late for dinner, she prepared red rice and went to a grill nearby to buy kebab. Now I call this dish “Aunt Zaynab Special.”

Two days ago, when I told my mom if she cooks some red rice, I will bring kebab for dinner. Between me and my mom, it’s a lovely memory of Aunt Zaynab. And I got emotional out of the blue and said, “Come on, Aunt Zaynab, cross the Marigold bridge. I remember you.” So, yeah, remember your loved ones, share their memories, cook their favorite dishes, and visit the places they used to love.

Okay, bye for now. Enjoy “Remember Me” song.
